This project forms part of Birmingha's school building programme. Shenley Academy will replace the existing high school which at present occupies the 37.5 acre site. Although a large site, several factors have been considered in the design process.
The positioning of the building is constrained by an existing covenant which restricts the height of any building on the site. In addition, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) exists on the site which constrains the position of the new building. The landscape areas which cover the majority of the site have been formed into a series of Pitches and multi-use games areas (MUGA’s), requiring extensive cut-and-fill operations. There is a considerable fall across the site with limited access potential from the surrounding existing road network. Services to the site are in the main situated in and around the position of the existing School.
