Student accommodation project in Nottingham
Posted: February 2012
The demand for university places from prospective students remains high despite the introduction of higher tuition fees. Shepherd Gilmour are working with the Mansion Group and OMI Architects to provide additional accommodation for students in Nottingham.
Bowman House is an existing 1970’s 4-storey office building which is being converted into 140 one-bed studios for students. The project will be known as Mansion Studios and is at an advanced stage of design. The floor areas to each level are being maximised which an extension to the front elevation along with the conversion of the ground floor undercroft area from car parking to bedrooms and communal areas.
Shepherd Gilmour’s project Director Giles Burton commented, “This is an interesting project which will see the return to use of a previously derelict and poor quality office building and its conversion into high quality student accommodation. Our extensive experience ensures that any challenges associated with refurbishment and conversion projects have been anticipated and appropriate solutions presented to the client.”
