First easyHotel opens in Dubai
Posted: September 2010
Shepherd Gilmour are pleased to announce that Dubai’s first budget hotel, easyHotel has opened in the Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA). The hotel is the first of a series of hotels planned as part of the easy brand made famous by Stelios Haji-Ioannou, and is the chain’s first easyHotel outside of Europe. With a budget busting rate of AED99 for its 216 rooms, easyHotel, Jafza aims to attract the cost conscious business & leisure traveller.
Shepherd Gilmour were the engineering consultants for the project, and have been intimately involved in the process of designing the next set of easyHotels for Nakheel, the Dubai firm which has developed and will operate the hotels.

The6 storey building is constructed using an in-situ concrete transfer structure at ground floor level with precast concrete bedrooms over. The foundations were piled due to poor ground conditions. Environmental concerns were paramount in the design stage and the hotel is the first budget hotel to achieve LEED Gold Standard.
Derek Astbury, Shepherd Gilmour’s Director in charge of the project commented, “We are delighted that this first easyHotel has now opened. We believe that this will be one of several easyHotels in the Gulf region. Shepherd Gilmour are at the forefront of delivering this type of ground-breaking project from our Dubai and Abu Dhabi offices.”
