Holiday Inn Express, Manchester starts on site Posted: June 2010 Shepherd Gilmour are pleased to announce that work has started on the Holiday Inn Express in Smithfields in Manchester. The project is designed by Mark Weintraub Architecture and Design for DRPT Properties Ltd and is being built by John Sisk & Sons Ltd. The project is located to the rear of the recently completed Crowne Plaza Hotel and shares the same ground conditions so a fully piled substructure is required. |

The architectural and structural design were integrated at a very early stage to allow the use of twin columns along the spine of the building, positioned either side of the bedroom corridors above. This allows the columns to directly support the 1st floor precast walls meaning steel transfer beams could be omitted, as the pre-cast walls themselves act as the transfer beams.
