Shepherd Gilmour in the Antartic
Posted: September 2011
Not many of Shepherd Gilmour's projects are as far flung as the one we have done for The British Antartic Survey Halley VI research station. The station was first established in 1956 and conducts research on meteorology, glaciology, seismology, radio astronomy, and geospace science.
The Halley VI facility is on the Brunt ice shelf, an area of floating ice off the main Antarctic plateau. Shepherd Gilmour were involved in the steelwork design for the laboratory platforms which are used to carry out the research.
Charlie White, the Director responsible for our Leeds office, comments, "It is really interesting to be involved with a project such as this; one which is helping scientists to understand the workings of the planet. Most of our projects are somewhat nearer to home, so I'm rather pleased I didn't have to make a site visit".
